Over $18 Million Spent to Provide Monetary Support to Poor and Vulnerable Families in Banteay Meanchey

BANTEAY MEANCHEY: In 2022, the Cambodian government spent more than US $18 million to support poor and vulnerable families in Banteay Meanchey province.

Banteay Meanchey Provincial Governor, Ros Sophany, stated at the meeting to review the work results of 2022 on Wednesday, 15 February 2023, that the policy to provide cash support to pregnant women and children under the age of two, as well as the cash support program for poor families, have helped to improve people's lives under the care of the head of the Royal Government of Cambodia.

"Due to the introduction of this policy during the fight against Covid-19, Cambodia was able to show a new face that is strong and positive, to the point where many countries are now learning from Cambodia's experience," she said.

She added that Cambodians have been able to reap the benefits of peace, political stability and rapid economic growth at an average rate of 7.7% over the last two decades, all of which undeniably justify the pride of the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Cambodian people.

She continued that the development of a harmonious society requires Cambodia to continue its development on a clear path, to identify and maintain the well-being of the people, and especially to ensure the provision of social services with equality, equity and education.

The Deputy Director of the Department of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation of Banteay Meanchey Province, Heng Srey Leak, stated that in 2022, there were 31,931 poor families who received a total of over US $18 million in monetary cash support.

In addition, the government also spent over US $300,000 providing cash support to pregnant women and children under the age of two in Banteay Meanchey province in 2022.
